GRAND ISLAND — The Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating National Small Business Week, April 28 through May 4.

The Chamber is using this event to remind area residents about the critical role small businesses play in the state’s economy. The following figures were reported by the U.S. Small Business Administration:

– As of 2023, Nebraska was home to 181,742 small businesses, comprising 99% of the state’s businesses.

– Small businesses account for roughly half of Nebraska’s employment.
To encourage small business growth, the Grand Island Chamber and the Central Community College (CCC) Entrepreneurship Center have published a 10-step checklist for starting a small business.

For hands-on small business guidance, the CCC Entrepreneurship Center offers a range of services and resources, including business planning and coaching. Learn more by calling 308-398-7520.

The Chamber also promotes several other small-business resource partners, including the Nebraska Business Development Center.

Meanwhile, the Grand Island Chamber has compiled a list of business incentives available to Grand Island businesses. The list is available for Chamber members upon request.

Also, the Chamber’s “Look Local, Grow Local” initiative encourages residents to do business locally. Any area establishment that wants a “Look Local, Grow Local” window decal may pick one up at the Chamber, located at 309 W 2nd Street in Grand Island.
